社会安全学研究, 7(7) 49-59, 2016This study developed the disaster education digital material for elementary schoolchildren, and examined the teaching effectiveness of this material. Eighty-five schoolchildren attended the class using this material twice, and did homework with their parents. Before and after the class, they answered the questionnaire to measure their learning effect (attitude toward subjective behavior, motivation toward disaster prevention action in cooperation with parents: both 3 items) and their evaluation of the class (3 items). The results generally indicated that their attitude of subjective behavior, and their motivation toward disaster prevention action was higher after the education, and their evaluation of class were high. These results generally showed the effectiveness of this material. In future studies, generalizability of these results should be examined.

JHES, 10(2) 115-121, 2012This study examined the relationships between schoolchildren's attachment to guardians and their safety actions. It also examined the effectiveness of using e-learning system to facilitate guardian's participation in safety education. One-hundred and eight schoolchildren (34 second-grade, 35 forth-grade, and 39 fifth-grade) and their guardians participated in this study. Safety educations were conducted at school by using e-learning system, which linked both school and home. Guardians could see the materials and their own child's answer in safety education at school through the internet. Schoolchildren answered the questionnaire before and after the education. Participations of guardians to the study were recorded by e-learning system. The results showed that before the safety educations, the relationships between schoolchildren's attachment to guardians and their safety actions were noticed only at fifth-grade schoolchildren. However, the expected relationships were noticed at all three grades after the educations. The ratios of guardian's participations were ranged from 11 % to 40 %. Developmental stages and procedure of re-study might affect the result of schoolchildren. Also, teacher's attitude toward guardians, or schoolchildren's motivation might affect the ratio of guardian's participations.

安全教育研究, 7(1) 35-44, 2007The purposes of this study were to develop a Safe Locus of Control Scale for elementary school children from the viewpoint of Health Locus of Control that derived from Social Learning Theory developed by Rotter JB, to examine the relationship between childhood Safe Locus of Control and Social Support Cognition. Questionnaire method was implemented on children from 5thand 6thgrade in two elementary schools, and 437 answers were returned.
Factor analysis yielded 3 factors which corresponded with the hypothesized 3 components:"self control","powerful other control","chance control". As a result, high reliability and validity of the Safe Locus of Control Scale for elementary school children were confirmed.
Referring to the relationship betwe en Social Support and Safety Locus of Control, the result implies children who are able to feel they are getting Social Support from the other influential people such as"family"or"teacher", can boost the sense of Self-affirmation of Control, i. e."self control"and"powerful other control". It is therefore considered that in future development of Safety education in elementary school, the level of consciousness in which safety promotion is done together with the children's families and teachers should be raised.

PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORTS, 97(1) 213-216, Aug, 2005 Peer-reviewedPrevious research has shown an empirical link between tobacco and alcohol use and suicide. If tobacco and alcohol use contribute to suicidal behaviors, then policies designed to reduce the tobacco and alcohol consumption may succeed in reducing suicides as well. To test this hypothesis, correlations for suicide rates with alcohol consumption, taxes on alcohol and tobacco in Switzerland were examined using sets of time-series data from Switzerland in 1965-1994. The tax on tobacco correlated significantly negatively with male standardized suicide rate. The tax on alcohol also correlated significantly with male standardized suicide rate in an autoregressive model. On the other hand, significant relationships with female suicide rate were not found. Policies designed to reduce tobacco consumption are consistent with a benefit of reducing suicides, particularly for men in this sample.
