The journal of Japanese Language Education Methods, 29(2) 88-89, Mar, 2023 Corresponding authorThe author has created a proposal of semantic formulas for analyzing discourse in which advice is offered, which has not been well studied so far among speech acts. When creating the formulas, the author refers to Morimoto's (2005) semantic formulas and Tsujimoto's (2008) original classification of free text responses within a survey. The semantic formulas created in this research consist of the following four major parts: I. Clarification of the situation that triggers the advice, II. Advice, III. Speech surrounding the advice, IV. Others. In total, 19 subcategories were established.

The journal of Japanese Language Education Methods, 27(1) 132-133, Mar, 2021 Corresponding authorThe subsidiary verb "~teshimau" has meanings that relate to aspect and subject. As far as we have observed, research comparing the habits of second language learners of Japanese and native Japanese speakers has only been conducted based on utterance data. In this study, we analyze the composition data of I-JAS and clarify how Chinese learners of Japanese and native Japanese speakers tend to use "~teshimau" in written language.

The journal of Japanese Language Education Methods, 26(2) 62-63, Mar, 2020 Corresponding authorWith the monumental increase in the use of smartphones, students have been observed to be using smartphones inside Japanese language classrooms. Using a smartphone in the class has been generally admitted so far, as it is said to help students with their studies. However, this study would like to examine the specific purpose for which students are resorting to their smartphones during the Japanese language class. In this study, a survey of Vietnamese students was conducted, with regard to the frequency and purpose of their usage of smartphones in the Japanese language classrooms. I have described the results of the survey in this report.

The journal of Japanese Language Education Methods, 25(2) 108-109, Mar, 2019 Corresponding authorThis paper provides a practical report and a proposal for teaching Japanese language learners Wakamono Kotoba expressions, one of the linguistic variations in the Japanese language. Students collected the Wakamono Kotoba expressions mainly through two types of interviews with Japanese university students, one-on-one interviews outside of the class and a group interview in the class. The learners then made a presentation, summarized the collection, and created the Wakamono Kotoba Handbook by themselves. In this paper, I report on the series of Wakamono Kotoba-related lessons. I then propose a better method for teaching Wakamono Kotoba followed by a review of the survey results after the lessons.
